Privacy Policy

Plain English summary: We collect your name, email, postcode, and financial data (income and expenses) to run the FinRebels service. We never sell your data. Your actual income and expense figures are private — only your operating margin percentage appears on the leaderboard, alongside your first name and last initial.

1. Who We Are

FinRebels is operated as a sole trader business by Partaay (ABN 59 813 972 460), trading as FinRebels. In this policy, "we", "us", and "our" refers to FinRebels. Our website is located at finrebels.com.au and you can contact us at hello@finrebels.com.au.

We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in that Act.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following personal and financial information when you use FinRebels:

Account information: Your first name and email address.
Location information: Your postcode, used solely to place you on the state-based leaderboard.
Financial data: Income sources, expense categories, and transaction amounts that you voluntarily enter into the platform.
Pay cycle information: Your preferred pay frequency (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly) for income normalisation.
Usage data: How you interact with the platform, including pages visited, features used, and session information.

We do not collect your full name, home address, phone number, date of birth, tax file number, bank account details, or government-issued identification.

3. How We Collect Your Information

We collect information directly from you when you:

Create an account and complete the onboarding process.
Log transactions, income, or expenses through the platform.
contact us by email or through the website.

We may also collect limited usage data automatically through your browser, including your IP address, browser type, and device information for security and analytics purposes.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Calculate your operating margin and provide your financial dashboard.
Place you on the leaderboard using your state and operating margin percentage only.
Send you weekly board reports and mission notifications (where you have opted in).
Improve the platform and fix technical issues.
Respond to your enquiries and provide customer support.
Comply with our legal obligations.

We will never use your financial data for advertising purposes, sell it to third parties, or share it with data brokers.

5. The Leaderboard and Your Privacy

The FinRebels leaderboard is designed to be competitive without compromising your financial privacy. Here is exactly what is and is not shown publicly:

Shown on the leaderboard: Your first name, last initial, state, and operating margin percentage.
Never shown publicly: Your actual income figures, expense amounts, postcode, email address, or full name.

Operating margin is a percentage — it reflects how efficiently you manage your finances relative to your income, without revealing the actual dollar amounts involved. A user earning $40,000 and a user earning $200,000 can both appear on the same leaderboard without either knowing the other's income.

If you do not wish to appear on the leaderboard, you can opt out at any time using the "Show me on the leaderboard" toggle under Account Settings → Leaderboard Privacy. Opting out removes your entry from all leaderboards while keeping your dashboard and all other features active, and you can turn it back on whenever you like.

6. How We Store and Protect Your Information

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption both in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest. Our database is hosted with Supabase in their Sydney, Australia region, and our website is hosted with Netlify. Both providers are contractually required to maintain appropriate security standards, and access to your financial data is restricted at the database level so that only you can read or write your own records.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion of your account (see Section 9), we will delete your personal and financial data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.

While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no internet transmission is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at hello@finrebels.com.au.

7. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

Service providers: Trusted third-party providers who help us operate the platform (such as hosting, analytics, and email services), who are contractually required to protect your data and use it only for the services they provide to us.
Legal requirements: Where we are required to do so by Australian law, court order, or government authority.
Business transfers: In the event FinRebels is sold or transferred, your data may be transferred to the new operator, who will be bound by this Privacy Policy.

8. Cookies and Tracking

We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and maintain your session. We do not use advertising cookies or share browsing data with advertising networks.

We may use privacy-friendly analytics tools to understand how the platform is used in aggregate. These tools do not identify individual users.

9. Your Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you — you can view and edit your name and postcode directly in Account Settings at any time.
Correct any inaccurate or outdated information, also via Account Settings.
Export a copy of everything you've logged as a CSV file, using the "Download my data" button under Account Settings → Your Data.
Delete your account and associated data — use "Request account deletion" under Account Settings → Danger Zone, which sends us a deletion request by email. We action these by hand, typically within a few business days, and will delete your personal and financial data within 30 days of the request.
Opt out of the leaderboard at any time via Account Settings → Leaderboard Privacy.
Withdraw consent to communications from us.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

10. Children's Privacy

FinRebels is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where the changes are significant, notify you by email. Continued use of FinRebels after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
